Feeding Therapy for Children
Is your child an anxious eater or selective feeder? Some children eat only a small
number of foods, while others may avoid entire food groups or certain textures.
At times, a child may get “stuck” on eating the same food prepared the same way
every day, and eventually lose interest without finding a replacement. Over time,
this can lead to an even more limited diet. These patterns are common and can
feel stressful and overwhelming for the whole family.
Our therapists are trained in both the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach
to Feeding and the Get Permission Approach. The SOS Approach is a
comprehensive, multidisciplinary method that looks at all the factors that can impact feeding—including motor skills, oral abilities, behavior and learning, medical concerns, sensory processing, and nutrition. It provides a framework for thorough evaluation and an individualized treatment plan for each child. The Get Permission Approach complements this by focusing on trust and a positive relationship with food, helping children feel safe and in control during mealtimes. Together, these approaches support meaningful progress in a supportive, child-centered way.
Feeding therapy is guided by the child’s developmental stages and typical feeding milestones. Sessions focus on creating a supportive and enjoyable mealtime environment, helping children feel more comfortable around food, encouraging exploration at their own pace, and gradually expanding their accepted food repertoire to support a more balanced and nutritious diet.
Services are provided in-clinic only.
